The performance piece fear: combines sound, projection and aerial dance to explore how we as individuals respond to fear and how we respond to each other within a culture of fear.
Fear is a theme that strikes a personal chord for every individual, regardless of race, religion or culture. While our specific fears may differ, our struggle to face and/or overcome them is universal. No one is immune to fear—not adults or children, women or men, natives or visitors. Fear is a shared language; it is primal, visceral, and instinctual. Many fears we internalize and live with on a daily basis, while others take us by surprise and seize us when we least expect it. This work will examine our relationship to fear and the roles that the media, politicians, our neighbors, and we play in perpetuating it. Is the world becoming more frightening or is it simply our perspective on what we think frightens us? When we are young and we wake in the middle of the night, a jacket draped over a chair in the dark is suddenly a fierce monster. However, if we flick on the lights, it is just a jacket. So how do we as individuals choose to relate to fear and how do we relate to each other within the context of fear? How do we raise our children, ride on airplanes, and live our lives responsibly yet freely?
